The Lehman College and Baruch College women's basketball teams will join together in the fight against Breast Cancer, as the two rivals will participate in the WBCA's "Think Pink" week. The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Lehman and Baruch, two of the perennial powers in the City University of New York Conference (CUNYAC) will meet on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00pm. The game will be played at the APEX Center on the campus of Lehman College.

2.7.2010 | Men's Volleyball
The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (3-4 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) split a pair of conference matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by scores of 30-15, 30-28, and 30-23 before falling to the No. 4 ranked Bearcats of Baruch College by scores of 30-21, 30-13, and 30-22 at the York Collge Gymnasium in Jamaica, NY.
In the Lightning’s triumph over the Bulldogs, Lehman College was led by the superb effort of Nate Martin, as the standout tallied 15 kills while adding three service aces and three digs. RJ LeBlanc also contributed with 11 kills, three block solos and a pair of digs, and Kelvis Castro chipped in with seven kills and four service aces. Finally, it was Angel Fernandez recording a match-high 31 assists. As a team, the Lightning hit .213.

The Lehman College women’s basketball team (9-14 Overall, 7-4 CUNYAC) fell in a non-conference game to the Blue Knights of Mount St. Mary College (16-4 Overall, 12-1 Skyline) 61-46 Saturday afternoon in the APEX Center in the Bronx.
In the winning effort for Mount Saint Mary College, standout forward Shannon Sangster netted 16 points (6-6 FT) while grabbing 14 rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Chrissy Zrowka netted 11 points and dished six assists, and Amanda Horvers added 12 points with six rebounds. Jess Tice also contributed to the Blue Knights victory by dropping in eight points and snatching six rebounds.

The 2009-2010 CUNYAC Swimming and Diving championships came to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon, and Baruch College owned the day as the Bearcats took home the championship on both sides. Baruch’s men’s squad took the crown with a total of 1056 points, while the Lehman College Lightning – who had won four consecutive conference titles from 2006-2009 – finished as runners up with 873 points. The College of Staten Island claimed third place with 819 points, and the York College Cardinals finished in fourth with 419 total points. In the women’s competition, 1044 points did the trick for the champion Bearcats, while Hunter College (698 points) took second place and Lehman claimed third (642 points). The College of Staten Island’s women’s squad took fourth place with 453 points, and York College (385 points) and John Jay College (299 points) rounded out the women’s competition.
On the men’s side on day three, Joe Lee from the College of Staten Island won gold in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:23.46. Kevin Kim of Baruch won silver with a time of 18:28.38 and teammate Patrick Campbell won bronze with a 19:02.93 effort.

Day two of the 2009-2010 CUNYAC championships are now in the books, and after two days of competition, the Lehman College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are still fighting to keep their dreams of championships alive.
Starting with the men’s side, Baruch College owns the lead currently with 745 points. The Lehman College Lightning are in second place with 601, followed by the College of Staten Island who has 556 points and the York College Cardinals who have 295 points.

Hunter College’s Rocco Rubino connected on a three-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining in overtime as the Hawks (10-13 Overall, 6-5 CUNYAC) dealt the Lehman College Lightning (8-15 Overall, 5-6 CUNYAC) a heartbreaking 73-71 defeat at the Sportsplex on Friday night. With the victory, the Hawks currently have sole possession of second place in the North Division, while the Lightning currently hold third place. Both teams have two conference games remaining.
Rubino struggled all evening long with his shot, missing eight of his previous 10 shots before draining the game-winning trey. He finished the evening with a total of 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Two other players scored in double figures for the Hawks, including Maxwell Dubois who – like Rubino – couldn’t find his shot all night. Dubois missed 20 shots – hitting on just six of 26 attempts and netting 14 points in the process. He also grabbed 15 rebounds and dished four assists. Mark Courtien scored 12 points and dished four assists while nailing four three-pointers on the night and shooting four-of-nine from the field.

The loss dropped the Lightning to third place in North Division while the Hawks jumped to second place. Both teams have two conference games remaining this season.
Despite the loss for Lehman College, it was Barbara Febus putting forth a solid effort as she scored 12 points while connecting on four of her eight field goal attempts. She also tallied three steals and connected on two-of-three at the charity stripe. Leslie Mencia also contributed with 10 points and five steals, and Melissa St. Louis scored a team high 13 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing three assists. Following the game, head coach Eric Harrison gave his thoughts.

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (2-3 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) picked up an impressive victory on Thursday evening, using a balanced effort to defeat Polytechnic University Fighting Blue Jays (0-5 Overall) by scores of 30-28, 30-21, and 30-25 at the Jacobs Gymnasium.
In the victory for Lehman College, Kelvis Castro put forth a phenomenal effort for the Lightning as he tallied 12 kills while hitting .381 on the evening. He also tallied five digs and a pair of block assists. Nate Martin contributed to the win with 14 kills (and a .417 hitting percentage) to go along with five digs and three services aces, and RJ LeBlanc hit .321 on the night while collecting 14 kills and tallying 13 digs. Finally, it was Angel Fernandez recording 41 assists. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena was very proud of his team’s effort.

The 2009-2010 City University of New York Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving championships began on Thursday afternoon at the APEX Aquatics Center in the Bronx. The Lehman College men’s swimming and diving team entered the day hoping to use a strong collaborative effort in an attempt pace themselves to a fifth consecutive conference crown, while the Lightning women – who served as a surprise during the regular season in finishing second in the standings – came in confident and hungry.
In the men's one-meter diving competition, Joaquin Cruz of Lehman College earned gold with a cumulative score of 305.70. Antonio Gaspar from the College of Staten Island won silver with a 244.50, and Rafeal Abreu of Lehman College won bronze with a 244.50.

In the victory for Lehman, the Lightning were led by the stellar performance of standout Leslie Mencia, as she scored a game-high 29 points (11-22 FG) to go along with nine rebounds. She drained seven treys on the evening in one of the more dominating performances the conference has seen this season. In addition, point guard Paula Robinson continued her recent solid play as she contributed with 13 points, eight assists and a pair of steals, and Tiana Rosa netted six points and snatched 10 rebounds on the evening.
