The Lehman College cross country teams returned to action on Saturday morning and competed in their final tune-up for the 2009 CUNYAC cross country championships as they ran in the CTC championships which were held on the campus Richard Stockton College. Lehman’s women’s unit placed 10th out of 12 participating schools, while the Lightning’s men’s squad only had three competitors and did not score.
On the women’s side, Lehman’s best performance came from the consistent Dorothy Jean-Pierre as she placed 58th overall in the meet by clocking in at a time of 27:17.81. Michaelle Garcon finished 26 seconds later as she clocked in at 27:43.41.

The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country units returned to action on Saturday afternoon as the teams competed in the Bard College Invitational. The event took place on the campus of Bard College in Annadale-on-Hudson, New York.
On the women’s side, SUNY New Paltz won the 5K invitational by having three of its runners finish in the top four. The host school, Bard College, finished in second place.

The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country teams returned to action yesterday as the units competed in the Baruch College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Lightning women finished 10th overall out of 12 participating teams that scored, while the men’s team finished 10th out of 13 units that scored.
The best performance on the day on either side came from Lehman’s men’s crew, as Oscar Kamalu followed up his strong performance from the previous weekend at the Vassar Invitational by finishing third overall in the men’s 8K event at the Baruch College Invitational, as he clocked in at a time 31:15. Kamalu finished just seven seconds behind the first place finisher who was Ian Scott of FDU Florham (31:08). 83 total runners scored in the event.

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men’s and women’s cross country today, and Lehman College was well represented. On the women’s side, staple Dorothy Jean-Pierre was named Female Runner of the Week, while Oscar Kamalu of the men’s unit was given Male Runner of the Week praise.
Dorothy Jean-Pierre, who is expected to lead the Lightning in 2009, began her season by leading all CUNY Athletic Conference runners at the Vassar Invitational. Running the 5k course in Poughkeepsie, NY, Jean-Pierre finished the course in 23:38, placing 24th. The Lehman women placed seventh as a team out of nine participating schools.

The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country teams began their 2009 seasons by participating in the Vassar College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet was held on the campus of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Lehman women scored 201 points and came in seventh place out of nine participating teams, while the men placed ninth out of 11 participating units as they scored 244 points.
The best performance for the Lehman women came from the consistent Dorothy Jean-Pierre who is expected to have another stellar season for the Lightning. She finished 24th overall the women’s 5K course, crossing the plane at 23:28. Lehman’s next two top finishers were Michaelle Garcon (she clocked in at 24:50 and finished 50th overall) and Luisa Garcia (she crossed the plane at 25:45 and finished 56th.)

The Lehman College athletic department announced today that former standout student-athlete and two-time All-American Pete Charles has been an Assistant Coach for the Lehman College cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field teams. The addition of Charles to Head Coach Lesleigh Hogg’s coaching staff will have a tremendous impact on the development and progression of all of Coach Hogg’s student-athletes in the upcoming academic year.
“Pete Charles is an individual who sacrificed a lot and worked extremely hard to accomplish the things he did while competing at Lehman College, and now he has an opportunity to further his legacy here at the college by guiding and providing knowledge to our student-athletes of six teams here in 2009-2010,” Hogg said. “He knows what it takes to win and how important preparation and practice are. I am very glad that he has joined our staff.”

The Lehman College men’s and women’s cross country teams will set their sights on big things in 2009 when they begin their seasons by participating in the Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday morning, September 5th.
Following seven days of rest, both squads return to action as they will be compete in the Baruch College Invitational on September 13th. A September 19th participation in the Bard Invitational comes next for both squads, and then both Lightning units will compete in the York College Invitational on September 27th.
