The Lehman's men volleyball team (13-9 overall, 9-5 CUNYAC) fell to 
Baruch College (28-2 Overall, 14-0 CUNYAC) in a conference match by scores of 17-30, 30-26, 16-30 and 21-30 Tuesday evening at the APEX Center in the Bronx on Senior Night.

 

Prior to the match, the Lehman College athletic department, as well as Dr. Martin L. Zwiren and the men’s volleyball coaching staff and the team’s student-athletes took a few moments to honor four-year senior Horace Morris for his dedication to the program. The 5’11 middle blocker was presented with a commemorative framed jersey in a show of thanks for his tremendous service.

3.15.10 | Men's Volleyball

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (13-8 Overall, 9-4 CUNYAC) avenged Tuesday’s five-set defeat at the hands of the City College of New York (9-16 Overall, 5-8 CUNYAC) by downing the Beavers Monday evening at the APEX Center by scores of 0-30, 0-30, 30-27, 30-20, and 15-7 in the Bronx. The match – which was originally scheduled to take place on the morning of February 20th – was played with the Beavers leading 2-0 in sets due to the Lightning’s late arrival on the morning of the originally scheduled match. Still, Lehman College overcame the hole and won three consecutive sets to capture the match in thrilling fashion.

 

In the victory for the Lightning, Lehman College was led by the stellar effort of RJ LeBlanc as the standout recorded a match-high 17 kills to go along with eight digs and pair of service aces. Nate Martin also had a tremendous match, adding 13 kills and nine digs, and Angel Fernandez paced his team with a match-high 25 assists to go along with four digs. Rafael Abreu also helped out with nine digs on the evening. Following the match, Lightning head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

3.11.10 | Men's Volleyball

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men’s volleyball on Wednesday evening, and Lehman College standout Nate Martin was named Player of the Week for his outstanding contributions during the Lightning’s 3-0 week last week.

 

During Lehman College’s perfect 3-0 week which saw the team record three league victories over York College, Medgar Evers, and New York City College of Technology, the Carleton, Michigan product served as a pace-setter for his club. In the Lightning’s 3-1 triumph over York College, Martin recorded 18 kills and 20 digs. Then, in Lehman’s convincing three-set win over Medgar Evers, he added eight kills and 10 digs. Finally, against the Yellow Jackets, the outside hitter contributed 11 kills and four digs in a five-set win over City Tech. Lehman College head coach Wolfgang Lucena believes Martin was truly deserving of the honor.

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (12-8 Overall, 8-4 CUNYAC) had its four-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening, falling to the Beavers of the City College of New York (8-15 Overall, 5-7 CUNYAC) by scores of 30-25, 26-30, 30-23, 26-30, and 19-21 at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in upper Manhattan.

 

In a match that served as a classic, Lehman College was led by RJ LeBlanc who tallied 27 kills on the night while committing just seven errors in five sets and hitting .323. He also added 10 digs and four assists. Nate Martin also dominated with 27 kills while hitting .351 and tallying 14 digs, and Angel Fernandez tallied 57 assists. Rafael Abreu helped out with 14 digs, and Aris Ducasse chipped in with six kills and four digs. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (12-7 Overall, 8-3 CUNYAC) won their fourth consecutive match, defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College (2-13 Overall, 2-10 CUNYAC) by scores of 30-23, 30-15 and 30-23 Monday evening at Brooklyn’s West Quad Gymnasium.

 

The Lightning were paced in the match by standout Nate Martin who put forth a phenomenal effort in a winning cause as he tallied match-highs in kills with 13 and digs with 21. RJ LeBlanc chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs, and Angel Fernandez added a match-high 28 assists. Aris Ducasse had six kills and six digs as well. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (11-7 Overall, 7-3 CUNYAC) picked up a pair of conference victories on Saturday morning, turning back the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology by scores of 30-26, 30-23, 20-30, 19-30, and 15-7 before easily downing the Cougars of Medgar Evers in three sets by scores of 30-18, 30-19, and 30-12 at the City College of New York's Nat Holman Gymnasium in upper Manhattan. The Lightning have now won three consecutive matches overall, and are 11-5 over their last 16 after beginning the season 0-2.

 

In Lehman’s thrilling five-set triumph over the Yellow Jackets, junior RJ LeBlanc paced his squad by talling nine kills and four block solos. Kelvis Castro also chipped in with 10 kills while Nate Martin helped with 13 kills and four assists. Angel Fernandez put forth a tremendous performance in the victory as he tallied 46 assists.

The Lehman College men’s volleyball team (9-7 Overall, 5-3 CUNYAC) took a huge step towards solidifying a home match in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 CUNYAC Men’s Volleyball Tournament as the Lightning turned back the Cardinals of York College (10-12 Overall, 6-6 CUNYAC) by scores of 30-23, 22-30, 30-28, and 30-23 Tuesday evening at the APEX Center in the Bronx.

 

In the victory for the Lightning, Nate Martin put forth a dominating performance, posting match-highs of 18 kills and 20 digs while recording three service aces while hitting .157 on the evening. RJ LeBlanc also chipped in with 14 kills and five digs while hitting .346 on the night, and Angel Fernandez recorded a match-high 42 assists. Rafael Abreu added 14 digs, and Kelvis Castro tallied six kills and recorded six digs. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.
