WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING SENSATION LUISA GARCIA NAMED CUNYAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly swimming and diving awards on Monday evening, and Lehman College women's swimmer Luisa Garcia was among the award winners as she was named Swimmer of the Week for her tremendous performances in the pool for the Lightning during Lehman's meets against Hunter College and Adelphi University.

 

The team dropped a pair of contests to Hunter College 54-40 and Adelphi University 109-81, but Garcia swam very well. Against Hunter, the Manhattan Center product set personal best times in the 200-yard freestyle with 2:21.80 and the 500-yard freestyle with 6:30.59. She won both events. Additionally, she finished second as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 1:59.57. Against Division II Adelphi, She captured second place in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.61 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:12.09. Following the announcement, Head Coach Peter Kiernan was very happy about the news.

 

“I'm very proud of Luisa for not only performing well in the pool, but also showing that veteran leadership that is so vital to our success,” Kiernan said. “She has really set the tone for the other swimmers and divers on this team, and we expect her to continue to help us improve as the season goes along.”

 

The Lightning will have a long break before the team returns to action for the stretch run on January 12th as Lehman College will travel to New York, NY to compete against the Baruch College Bearcats, with meet-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
