Box Score
The Lehman College women's basketball team (6-5 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC) dropped their second consecutive non-conference contest, falling to Marymount University (VA) by a score of 73-62 Tuesday afternoon at the Saints' Verizon Sports Arena in Arlington, Virginia.
In the victory for the Saints, senior guard Kathryn Wilson led the way for her squad as she put together a solid performance, netting a team-high 19 points while grabbing six rebounds. In addition, junior forward Kathleen Brown had a sensational game, as she posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. She also tallied two steals in the win. Finally, it was feisty guard Terrell White putting together a fine all-around effort with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Marymount University (VA) limited their turnovers in the contest, committing just 11 while forcing 22 Lehman miscues. The Saints also netted 18 points from the charity stripe compared to 10 for the Lightning.
Despite the loss for the Lightning, senior stalwart Sally Nnamani continued her stellar season as she posted game-highs in points with 25 and rebounds with 15. The Warwick High School product made good on 10 of her 21 shot attempts, and she also swatted two shots. Fellow senior Whittney Barnes added 11 points but she was particularly strong on the boards, snatching 14 caroms (seven offensive, seven defensive). She also was 5-6 from the charity stripe. Finally, Tonisha Kirby put forth a quintessential all-around performance as she dropped in 13 points, dished six assists, and grabbed five rebounds. Lehman shot 34.3 percent from the field in the game, and only connected on six of their 25 attempts from beyond the arc. Following the game, Head Coach Eric Harrison was happy with his team's effort.
“This was a tough pill for us to swallow, but I was extremely happy in our fight once again,” Harrison said. “The team goes into each and every game with confidence, and today was no different. We fell behind early, and we weren't playing our best ball the first 10-12 minutes, but we stuck with it and made it tough on the Saints towards the end of the game. We'll go back to the drawing board and try to address some things, but overall I was very pleased with this team's tenaciousness today.”
The Lightning dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Marymount University (VA) by a margin of 53-42. The Saints held a commanding lead in the steal department, however, tallying 10 steals while the Lightning were unable to record one. The assist total was nearly identical, with the Saints dishing 13 assists to Lehman's 12.
The Lightning will return to action on Sunday afternoon, January 4th as the team resumes its conference portion of the schedule with a road game against the City College of New York Beavers in a matinee at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, with game-time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
