WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STALWART SALLY NNAMANI NAMED CUNYAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for basketball on Monday evening, and Warwick High School product Lehman College standout Sally Nnamani was named CUNYAC Player of the Week for her phenomenal efforts for the Lightning in Lehman's last three contests.

The Lightning (7-5, 2-0 CUNYAC North) went 1-2 during the break, losing to William Paterson University 77-68 and Marymount (Va.) 73-62 before winning at CCNY 73-59. For the three games, the sensation averaged 23 points, 12.3 rebounds and three assists. Nnamani recorded double-doubles in two games with 25 points and 15 rebounds against national power Marymount and 28 points and 13 caroms against CCNY. Against William Paterson University, she was one rebound shy of the mark, contributing 16 points and nine rebounds. Head Coach Eric Harrison was very happy to see Nnamani earn the award.

“Sally Nnamani is a special player, and this year more than any other, she is showing that she is one of the best players in Division III basketball,” he said. “The fact that she can consistently play well against difficult non-conference competition is very encouraging to see. In addition, she has played very well during our league games, and she has also encouraged our other players and motivated them to where they are going into every game expecting to win.”

The Lightning begin a tough four-game stretch tomorrow evening when the team travels to the College of Staten Island for a game with the CSI Dolphins. That contest will be followed up by a battle with Hunter College on Friday evening before Lehman battles Baruch College and Amherst College at the APEX Center on January 16th and 20th.
