The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly basketball award winners late Monday afternoon, and Lehman College was represented by standout Tiana Rosa as she was named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for her phenomenal performances against Keystone College, Staten Island, and Hunter College last week.
Last Monday afternoon in Lehman's contest against Keystone College, Rosa contributed 17 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks in the Lightning's 57-53 triumph. That victory helped the Lightning get off to a great start in 2010. The freshman was terrific again in Lehman's next game, as she scored 15 points and snatched 17 rebounds in a 48-47 loss to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island this past Wednesday. Finally, this past Friday against Hunter College, she scored 15 points and grabbed 13 boards while registering a pair of blocks in Lehman's 74-72 thrilling overtime win over the Hawks. Lehman College head coach Eric Harrison gave his thoughts on Rosa receiving the honor.
“Tiana Rosa has been a crucial part of our recent success,” Harrison said. “She came up big in our victory against Keystone College and she was a cornerstone of our gritty win over Hunter College. She's extremely motivated this year after sitting out last year with her injury, so she's playing with a lot of fire and hunger, and it comes as no surprise that we're seeing this kind of effort from her. I'm very proud that she received Rookie of the Week honors this week.”
The Lightning battle the Richard Stockton Ospreys on Monday evening at 6:00pm at the APEX Center in a non-conference contest before taking three days off and then battling the Baruch College Bearcats in a CUNYAC battle on Friday evening at Baruch's ARC Arena. Tip-off time for that game is scheduled for 5:30pm.
