The Lehman College men's tennis team (2-10 Overall, 1-7 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Polytechnic University Fighting Blue Jays by a score of 8-1 at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
After three competitive doubles sets, the Fighting Blue Jays held a 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, it was Polytechnic University's combination of Connor Doherty and Kyle Garingalao defeating Lehman's pair of David Chang and Shiva Devarinti by a score of 8-4. Anton Fyodorov and DJ Errabali defeated the Lightning's Miguel Carela and Larry Harvey by a score of 9-7 (7-3) at No. 2 doubles, and finally at No. 3 doubles it was the Fighting Blue Jays' Conor Dawson and Vache Asatryan silencing Lehman's Joseph Veras and Alex Linde, 8-2.
When play switched over to singles, the Fighting Blue Jays won five of the six singles sets to put the match away. The Lightning's lone victory in single competition came at No. 6 singles when Linde defeated Asatryan by a score of 10-8. At No. 1 singles, Polytechnic's Doherty turned back Devariniti 10-3. No. 2 singles saw Fyodorov beat Chang, 10-4. Garingalao downed Harvey 10-6 at No. 3 singles, and at No. 4 singles it was Errabali defeating Carela 10-3. Finally at No. 5 singles, it was Dawson bounced Veras, 10-0.
The Lightning will return to action on Tuesday evening as Lehman will take to the road to take on Sarah Lawrence College, with match-time scheduled for 5:00pm.
