WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES HOME-OPENING CONTEST TO SUNY NEW PALTZ HAWKS

Box Score

The Lehman College women's basketball team (0-3 overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) suffered a loss in their home opener against the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz (3-1 overall, 0-0 SUNYAC) Tuesday evening by a score of 73-53 in a non-conference contest played at the APEX Center.

Despite the loss for the Lightning, junior guard Melissa St. Louis finished the contest with 14 points (5-8 FT) and three steals. Senior guard Kelsey Ash also chipped in with 13 points, three assists and grabbed two steals, and Dorothy Hunte netted 9 points (4-6 FG) in 32 minutes. The Lightning were out-rebounded in the contest by a margin of 51-34 and Lehman committed 21 turnovers compared to 16 for SUNY New Paltz. Lehman also connected on just 47.8 percent of its attempts from the charity stripe compared to 63 percent for New Paltz. Head Coach Eric Harrison gave his thoughts following the loss.

“Obviously we're disappointed that we couldn't record a victory in front of a packed house here, but it's a long season and I feel as though the long six day break will do wonders for us,” Harrison said. “The break will allow us to clear our heads and get on the same page with one another, and then when we resume I feel as though we can really get the ball rolling. There are things we need to improve on but I'm confident we'll do so.”

Leading the way for the Hawks in the victory was Kristen Caban as she finished the evening with 18 points (4-5 treys) while Maggie Farrell netted 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. In addition, Kaitlin Clifford chipped in with 10 points and three rebounds.

The Lightning will now break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then Lehman will return to action on Tuesday evening, December 1st as the Lightning will battle the Beavers of City College of New York, with game-time scheduled for 7:15pm.
