SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWIM AGAINST SUNY MARITIME; WOMEN WIN, MEN FALL

The Lehman College swimming and diving teams returned to action on Thursday evening, traveling to Maritime, NY to battle the SUNY Maritime Privateers in non-conference action. The Lightning women (2-4 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC) picked up their second consecutive victory, downing the Privateers 111-96, while the Lehman men (1-4 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) fell to Maritime by a score of 127-110.

On the women's side for Lehman College, the Lightning dominated the meet, recording seven first place finishes. In addition, the Lightning recorded 21 personal best times and one new school record (Luisa Garcia lowered her time in the 200 IM by four seconds as she came in second place in that competition by completing the event with a time of 2:33.68.) Veterans Tanaka Nyemba, Jessica Espinal, Basilisa Alonso, and Sylvia Churchill also showed great leadership and ability in guiding the Lightning to another win.

The Lehman College men's team swam hard, but was not able to upend a very talented SUNY Maritime squad. Despite the loss for the Lightning, there were some standout performances. Chris Mammano won the 100 Yard Butterfly event, completing the event in a time of 1:04.38. In addition, it was Luis Arias claiming victory in the 100 Yard Freestyle, as he won that event by recording a time of 55:07, and Juaquin Cruz won the 3 Meter Diving competition with a dive of 166.75.

The Lehman College women's swimming and diving team will return to action on Saturday, December 12th, as the Lightning take on Hunter College at the APEX Center at 1:00pm, while the men's squad returns to the pool on December 15th against USMMA King's Point.
