The Lehman College women's basketball team (2-4 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference game on Saturday evening, falling to Hamilton College (5-1 Overall, 0-0 Liberty League) in the Salisbury Optimist Classic Tournament at Salisbury University by a score of 75-49. It was the Continentals' fifth straight win, while Lehman had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Hamilton College's Madie Harlem's game-high 29 points, including seven three-pointers, led the way for the Continentals in the victory. In addition, she also contributed with a pair of rebounds and a pair of steals. Reisa Asimovic added 12 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Eliza Howe put forth a nice all-around game with nine points, six assists, six boards, and a pair of steals. The Continentals shot a whopping 50 percent from the floor (26-52) and 76.5 percent from the line (13-17).
Hamilton College started off the game by scoring the first 11 points and grabbing an 11-0 advantage just 2:15 in. The Lightning would storm back, though, outscoring the Continentals 36-21 the remainder of the half to take a 36-32 lead into halftime. In the second half, Hamilton out-scored Lehman 43-13 and held the Lightning to just 17.9 percent shooting for the session. The Continentals opened the half with a 20-4 run to put themselves up, 52-40. The run featured seven points from Howe including two three-pointers. Hamilton stretched its lead to as many as 27 with 5:53 left.
Despite the loss for the Lightning, Dorothy Hunte scored 14 points and netted eight rebounds (she was named to the All-Classic team). Tiana Rosa scored eight points and snatched 12 rebounds in 34 minutes, and Kelsey Ash put forth a fine all-around effort with nine points, seven steals, five rebounds, and three assists. The Lightning struggled from the floor in the loss, knocking down just 31.7 percent of their shots (20-63). Lehman did out-rebound Hamilton College, 41-36.
The Lightning will return to action Wednesday afternoon as Lehman College will take on Messiah College in a non-conference game at the I-Zod Center, with game-time scheduled for 3:00pm.
