MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM NOTCHES VICTORY OVER QUEENS COLLEGE IN BRONX

The Lehman College men's swimming and diving team picked up a hard-fought non-conference victory on Monday evening as the Lightning defeated the Knights of Queens College by a score of 112-100 at the APEX Aquatics Center in the Bronx. The victory was the second straight for the men's swimming and diving unit, and the team appears to be getting hot at the right time.

In the victory for the Lightning, Chris Mammano led the way as he put forth a tremendous evening for his team, winning the 200 yard IM as completed that event in a time of 2:34.69, and he also recorded a second place finish in the men's 500 yard freestyle and he finished that competition in a time of 5:58.53.

As a team, Queens College recorded first place finishes in nine of the 13 events that place, but the Lightning's strength in numbers and depth compared to the depth of the Knights was too much for Queens College to overcome, as the Lightning competed unopposed in four events. Following the meet, head coach Peter Kiernan gave his thoughts.

“We're putting forth better swims and we're diving better as the CUNYAC championships approach,” Kiernan said. “This team has to continue to work hard and train hard to prepare itself as best as it could for the next two weeks. This was a great win tonight, and we'll try to nail down another victory on Wednesday evening.”

The Lehman College men's swimming and diving team will compete in its regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon as the team will battle Manhattan College in a non-conference meet, with meet-time scheduled for 4:00pm. The Lightning will also honor their seniors before the meet.
