Meet Results
BRONX, N.Y. - Despite capturing a majority of the top finishes in its meet against St. Joseph's of Brooklyn, the Lehman women's swim team was narrowly defeated by the Bearcats 97-95 on Wednesday night to fall to 2-9 overall on the season.
Lehman finished first in seven of the 11 events on the evening, but was done in by a Bears team that scored points as a result of multiple second and third place finishes as well as an untimely disqualification late in the meet by the Lightning.
Senior
Basilisa Alonso and junior
Yocari Almanzar were both two event winners for the Lightning with Alonso taking the 200-yard IM (2:37.16) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.19), while Almanzar outpaced the competition in the 200-yard freestyle (2:34.95) and the 500-yard freestyle (7:08.75). Both also competed on Lehman's winning 200-yard medley relay team (2:18.43).
Junior
Adriana Navarrete swam to a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.50 seconds but was later nipped in the 100-yard freestyle by St. Joseph's Kristen McMaster, who reached the finish in 1:04.11 as compared to Navarrete's 1:04.22.
The Lightning also saw marked improvement from freshman
Cirleny Gonzalez, who improved on her season's best time of 17:55.67 in the 1000-yard freestyle by finishing in 17:39.75.
Both the Lehman men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action on January 17 when they will travel to Jamaica, New York to square off against York College.
