Head Coach Wolfgang Lucena

Elevated to head coach of the men’s and women’s volleyball programs in 2009 after serving as an assistant coach from 2005-2007, Wolfgang Lucena has already enjoyed historic success with the Lightning.

In two seasons, Lucena has led the women’s team to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the CUNYAC Championships while the 2010 team made Lehman history by earning its first ever invitation to the ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Women's Volleyball Championship.

Lucena’s first year as head man with the men’s program in 2010 featured similar success with the men’s team also advancing to the semifinals of the CUNYAC Championships as well as earning the program’s first-ever invite to the ECAC Championship.

During his brief tenure as head coach, Lucena has been fortunate to coach several outstanding players, including Jillian Acevedo, a CUNYAC First Team All-Star in 2009, and Gerri-Ann Martin, who was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2008 and then honored with First Team selections in 2009 and 2010.  Nate Martin, a standout for the men’s team, was selected as a Second Team All-Star in both 2010 and 2011, while R.J. LeBlanc was named a First Team All-Star in 2011.

Additionally, under his guidance the 2011 men's team led all of Division III men's volleyball with 2.46 service aces per set.

Between his stint as Lehman’s assistant coach and his ascension to head coach, Lucena was a valuable assistant at Bronx Community College in 2008 when the team captured its first ever CUNYAC Community College championship.
