Box Score
A team can't get much closer to a win than the Lightning men's tennis team did on Thursday afternoon against City College of New York, as Lehman was narrowly defeated 5-4 by the Beavers to fall to 1-3 on the season.
Lehman was able to take two of the three doubles matches but could capture only two of the four singles matches.
In doubles action, Lehman's No. 1 pairing of
Raul Santana and
Michael Tal dispatched of Gaiell-Michell Kercy, 8-5, while the No. 2 doubles team of
Jahi-Abasi Jabbar and
Cesar Andrade outlasted Itai Achiaz and Julian Felder 9-8. CCNY took No. 3 doubles with the team of Jaber Hoque and Hoang Nguyen shutting out
Jorge Zapata and
Marcos Coto-Batres 8-0.
The Beavers turned the tables in singles action, however, despite Santana – 6-2, 6-2 over Kercy – and Tal – 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 over Achiaz – taking their No. 1 and No. 2 matches. In No. 3 action, Haninovich stopped Jabbar 6-2, 7-6; No. 4 Felder knocked off Andrade 6-0, 6-3; Hoque beat Coto-Batres soundly, 6-0, 6-1, in a battle of No. 5s; and Nguyen blanked Zapata 6-0, 6-0.
CCNY improves to 2-3 on the season with its win.
The Lightning returns to action on Saturday afternoon, weather pending, against visiting Rutgers-Newark University.
