The Lehman men's tennis team lost to visiting Polytechnic Institute of New York University 5-4 on Sunday afternoon, partly because of the play on the court by the Fighting Blue Jays and party because of insufficient numbers, to fall to 2-7 on the season.
Short on competitors, the Lightning gave away two points when it was forced to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
In the remaining matches, the Lightning more than held its own, starting with doubles action as Lehman's No. 1 pairing of
Raul Santana and
Michael Tal defeated Michael Sokolowsky and Alex Ryzhko 8-2.
Rabiedra Hansraj and
Cesar Andrade took their No. 2 matchup with Michael Ye and Michael Lupo 8-5.
Santana continued his strong play in singles action, capturing his No. 1 match against Sokolowky 10-4. Tal suffered defeat in No. 2 action, losing to Ye 10-5. In No. 3 competition, Andrade doubled up Ryzhko 10-5. Lupo rebounded from doubles defeat to take his No. 4 contest with Hansraj and Kelvin Lin stopped
Ali Saleh 10-4 in a battle of No. 5s.
Lehman will play its final conference match of the season on Tuesday afternoon when City College of New York visits the Bronx.
