To say the Lehman men's tennis team did anything short of dominate St. Joseph's (BK) on Tuesday afternoon would be doing the team a severe injustice.
Losing only two games during the course of the nine matches played, the Lightning easily disposed of the Bears 9-0 on the courts of the United States National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens to move to 4-7 on the season.
Each Lightning singles player cruised through his match, winning 8-0 as
Raul Santana defeated Muhammad Bhatti;
Michael Tal slammed Martin Torres;
Jahi-Abasi Jabbar blitzed Derrick Akwei;
Cesar Andrade smoked Conrad Nytko;
Philip Akogu blasted Matthew Walsh; and
Rabiedra Hansraj halted Iqbal Husain.
Doubles play was only slightly more demanding. The No. 2 and No. 3 teams of Jabbar and Andrade and Coto-Batres and Saleh dropped a single game in their matches against Nytko and Walsh and Torres and Jan Rogowski, respectively, while Santana and Tal teamed up to blank Bhatti and Akwei.
Lehman is scheduled to open the CUNYAC/HSS Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday afternoon against the No. 3 seeded Hunter Hawks at 11 a.m. at York College.
