The Lehman College men's tennis team (0-2 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) dropped its home-opening match, falling to the Hunter College Hawks (4-0 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) by a score of 9-0 Monday afternoon in a conference match played at the APEX Tennis Courts. The match was originally scheduled for this past Thursday afternoon, but rain postponed the match.
The Hawks set the tone for the clash in the early stages of the match, capturing all three doubles contests. At No. 1 doubles, Hunter's combination of Max Segan and Peter Stanciu defeated Lehman's pairing of Ryan Magsino and Miguel Carela by a score of 8-0. No. 2 doubles saw the Hawks' Jayquan Gooding and Noel Marrero claim victory over the Lightning's Raul Santana and Rabiedra Hansraj 8-2, and Hunter's Ian Katz and Andres Gonzalez silenced Lehman's duo of Joseph Veras and Rafael Abreu 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
When play switched over to singles, the Hawks put the match away. At No. 1 singles, Segan turned Back Santana 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 2 singles it was Stanciu defeating Magsino 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 singles saw Gooding silence Carela 6-1, 6-2, and Hunter's Marrero, Gonzalez, and Arceo defeated Lehman's Hansraj, Yongda Leung, and Veras at No's 4,5, and 6 singles, respectively.
Lehman will return to action Thursday afternoon as the team takes to the road to participate in a conference match against the City College of New York Beavers, with match-time scheduled for 3:30pm.
