MEN'S TENNIS SUFFERS SETBACK, FALLING TO BEARCATS 8-0 AT U.S. NATIONAL TENNIS CENTER

The Lehman College men's tennis team (4-5 Overall, 3-3 CUNYAC) suffered a conference loss Friday afternoon, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats (7-2 Overall, 4-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 8-0 at the U.S. National Tennis Center.

 

The Bearcats set the tone for the match during doubles competition, capturing all three sets. At No. 1 doubles, Baruch's tandem of Fedor Khrushchev and Tadas Valiukenas defeated Lehman's duo of Raul Santana and Rabiedra Handraj, 8-1. No. 2 doubles saw Emanuel Imperial and Andrew Smith breezed by Ryan Magsino and Miguel Carela, 8-1, and Mikheil Sumbatashvil and Aliaksei Misitau turned back Joseph Veras and Larry Harvey 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Bearcats continued to have success, going undefeated in five finished sets. No. 1 singles saw Khrushchev defeated Santana (5-2, retired), while Imperial turned back Carela 6-2 and 6-2 and No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Sumbatashvil defeated Hansraj 6-2 and 6-1, and Mistitau beat Harvey at No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Finally at No. 6 singles, Yelnar Nurseitov silenced Veras, 6-2 and 6-1. Valiukenas led Magsino, 6-1 and 5-4 at No. 2 singles, but the set was unfinished.

 

The Lightning will look to get back on track Monday afternoon as the team takes to the road to battle the City College of New York Beavers in a conference contest, with match-time scheduled for noon.
