MEN'S TENNIS DROPS HIGHLY-COMPETITIVE CONFERENCE MATCH TO CCNY BEAVERS

The Lehman College men's tennis team (4-6 Overall, 3-4 CUNYAC) dropped a conference match this afternoon, falling to the City College of New York Beavers (6-3 Overall, 2-3 CUNYAC) by a score of 6-3 in a highly competitive match.

 

The Beavers took the early advantage after doubles play, capturing two of the three doubles sets. At No. 2 doubles, it was the Beavers' Avinand Persuad and Gaiell-Michell Kercy defeating Lehman's Ryan Magsino and Miguel Carela, 8-6 in a tremendous battle. Also, CCNY's Steven Tran and Vinicio Haro downed the Lightning's Joseph Veras and James Mariani, 8-0. Lehman's lone victory came at No. 1 doubles where the Lightning's standout team of Raul Santana and Manuel Podlecki pushed past Gabriel Felder and Julian Felder, 8-3.

 

When play switched over to singles, the intensity carried over, with the Beavers capturing four of the six singles sets, and ultimately icing the match. At No. 2 singles, Persuad edged Magsino 7-5, 2-6, and 10-7. No. 3 singles saw Haro turn back Podlecki, 6-4 and 6-3. Also, Kercy beat Larry Harvey, 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 5, and No. 6 singles saw Julian Felder silencing Hansraj, 6-4 and 6-4. Lehman's two singles victories came at No. 1 where Santana downed Gabriel Felder 6-4 and 6-1, and No. 4 singles where Carela beat Jaiho Chang.

 

The Lightning will return to action Thursday afternoon to take on St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn at the APEX Tennis Courts, with match-time scheduled for 4:00pm.
