The Lehman College men's tennis team (5-6 Overall, 4-4 CUNYAC) defeated the St Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears in a non-conference match by the score of 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
The Lightning led after doubles play as Lehman captured two of the three doubles sets. At No.2 doubles, Lehman's combination of Ryan Magsino and Miguel Carela defeated the Bears' Duo of Jon Matzelle and Pat Chiarel by a score of 8-1. No. 3 doubles play saw Lehman's Joseph Veras and James Mariani pick up an 8-0 victory over St. Joseph's Matt Walsh and Anthony Grasso. The Bears' lone victory in doubles play came at No. 1 where Ed Han and Mohammed Alibhalti picked up a hard-fought 8-5 victory over the Lightning's Raul Santana and Rabiedra Hansraj.
In singles play, the Lightning captured all six sets against the Bears. At No.1 singles, standout Santana defeated Han by a score of 10-1. No.2 singles saw Magsino turn back Alibhalti 10-7, and at No.3, Miguel Carela downed Matzell, 10-3. No.4 Singles saw Hansraj defeat Chiarel 10-5. Larry Harvey downed Grasso 10-3 at No. 5 singles, and Veras finished off Matt Walsh 10-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Lightning will return to action on Friday afternoon as the team will take on the John Jay College Bloodhounds in a CUNYAC match, with start-time scheduled for 3:30pm.
