LEHMAN TENNIS TRIPPED UP BY JOHN JAY COLLEGE 8-1 IN CUNYAC MATCH AT APEX TENNIS COURTS

The Lehman College men's tennis team (5-7 Overall, 3-5 CUNYAC) dropped a conference match to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (6-3 Overall, 4-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 8-1 Friday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.

 

The Bloodhounds jumped ahead after doubles play, capturing two of the three doubles sets. At No. 1, the Bloodhounds' combination of Dong Shao and Derrick Chung defeated Lehman's duo of Raul Santana and Manuel Podlecki by a score of 8-5. No. 3 doubles saw John Jay's pair of Josh Pagan and Matt Hicks turn back the Lightning's Joseph Veras and Rabiedra Hansraj, 8-0. Lehman's lone doubles victory came at No. 2 where Ryan Magsino and Miguel Carela defeated John Jay's Tim Smith and Jonathan Cedeno, 8-2.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Bloodhounds slammed the door on the Lightning by taking all six sets. At No. 1 singles, Shao downed Santana 6-2 and 6-3. No. 2 singles saw Pagan push past Magsino 6-2 and 6-1. Chung turned back Podlecki 6-1 and 7-6 at No. 3. No. 4 singles saw Hicks silence Carela 6-0 and 6-2. Cedeno defeated Larry Harvey 6-1 and 6-3 at No. 5 singles, and Hansraj fell to Smith, 6-2 and 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

 

The Lightning will return to action Sunday afternoon as the team battles Polytechnic University in a non-conference match, with start time scheduled for 1:00pm.
