The Lehman College men's tennis team (7-8 Overall, 3-5 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match Saturday afternoon, falling to the SUNY Purchase Panthers (5-5 Overall, 2-4 Skyline) by a score of 7-2 at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
The Panthers took a 2-1 lead after doubles competition. At No. 2 doubles play, the Panthers' Matthew Plen and Maxim Luiggi turned back the Lightning's combination of Rabiedra Hansraj and Joseph Veras by a score of 8-3. No. 3 doubles saw SUNY Purchase's Christopher Arnet and Matthew Hecht defeated Lehman's James Mariani and Larry Harvey, 8-1. The Lightning's lone singles victory came at No. 1 doubles where Raul Santana and Ryan Magsino beat Nico Marceca and Harrison Grinnell, 8-3.
Singles competition belonged to the Panthers as well, as SUNY Purchase captured five of the six singles sets. At No. 2 singles, Grinnell silenced Magsino, 10-4. No. 3 singles saw Marceca defeated Hansraj 10-5. Luiggi beat Carela (1-4, retired) at No. 4 singles, and Arnet downed Maria 10-1 at No. 5 singles. Finally, at No. 6 singles, Alex Litzky turned back Veras, 10-2. The Lightning did get a victory from Santana at No. 1 singles as he defeated Plen, 10-0.
The Lightning will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as the team will enter the 2009 CUNYAC Men's Tennis Tournament as the No.6 seed and will take on the No. 3 seeded Bloodhounds of John Jay College. Match time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
