The Lehman College men's tennis team (3-4 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) continued to roll as the team won for the third time in its past four matches, defeating the Brooklyn College Bridges (2-3 Overall, 2-2 CUNYAC) by a score of 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
The Lightning, coming into the match hoping to build off of the momentum of this past Saturday's victory over Rutgers University (Newark), got out to a fast start against Brooklyn, capturing two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lehman's combination of Raul Santana and Manuel Podlecki defeated the Bridges' pair of Kristoffer Flores and Johnny Rolando, 8-3. Also, at No. 2 doubles, the Lightning's duo of Ryan Magsino and newcomer Miguel Carela put away Brooklyn's Johnny Tang and Clark Jean-Baptiste 8-0. The Bridges' lone victory in doubles play came when Jeffrey Deng and Vesna Tan turned back Lehman's Joseph Veras and Larry Harvey, 8-3.
Following doubles action, Lehman dominated singles play, capturing five of the six singles sets. Santana out-dueled Rolando at No. 1 singles, 6-4, and 6-4 in an exciting set. No. 2 singles saw Magsino defeat Flores 6-3 and 6-0, and at No. 3, it was Podlecki turning back Jean-Baptiste, 6-0 and 6-2. In a hard-fought No. 4 singles set, Carela outlasted Tang 7-5 and 6-4, and Lehman's final victory in singles play came at No. 6 where Rabiedra Hansraj downed Deng, 6-1 and 6-1. The Bridges' lone win at singles came when Tan defeated Harvey, 3-6, 7-5, and 10-3.
The Lightning will look to continue their recent string of success when the team welcomes the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology to the APEX Tennis Courts for a CUNYAC match. Start-time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
