MEN'S TENNIS STAYS HOT BY BLANKING YELLOW JACKETS 9-0 AT APEX TENNIS COURTS

The Lehman College men's tennis team (4-4 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) won for the fourth time in its last five tries, defeating the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology (0-7 Overall, 0-6 CUNYAC) by a score of 9-0 Wednesday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.

 

The Lightning cruised through doubles play, capturing all three sets. At No. 1 doubles, Lehman's standout combination of Raul Santana and Manuel Podlecki defeated City Tech's duo of Merryn Wilson and James Samuel by a score of 8-0. No. 2 doubles saw the Lightning's James Mariani and Rafael Abreu defeat the Yellow Jackets' Jay Chen and Dave Jean-Baptiste, 8-3. Lehman took the No. 3 doubles set by default.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Lightning kept the pressure on the Yellow Jackets and eventually ran away with the match. Santana earned a 6-1 and 6-1 victory over Wilson at No. 1 singles, while Magsino turned back Chen 6-1 and 6-1 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Podlecki defeated Samuel 6-1 and 6-0, and Carela blanked Jean-Baptiste at No. 4 singles 6-0 and 6-0. No. 5 singles saw Mariani down Pavitram Singh (6-0, retired), and the Lightning took the No. 6 singles set by default.

 

Lehman College will hope to continue its winning ways Friday afternoon as the team takes to the road to battle the Baruch College Bearcats, with match-time scheduled for 3:30pm.
