The Lehman College men's tennis team (0-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) began their season on Thursday afternoon as the Lightning fell to the Hawks of Hunter College (2-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC) by a score of 9-0 at the APEX Tennis Courts. The Hawks served as the home team in the contest.
The Hawks took an early 3-0 lead after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, it was Hunter's combination of Roy Forberg and Alex Stanciu turning back Lehman College's pair of David Chang and Miguel Carela by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw the Lightning's Larry Harvey and Joseph Veras get silenced by the Hawks' Arthur Kapetakis and Ian Katz by a score of 8-0, and Hunter's Noel Marrero and Louis Cruz defeated the Lightning's Dean Garcia and Marcos Coto-Batres at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1.
When play switched over to singles, it was all Hawks still. At No. 1 singles, it was Stanciu downing Chang, 6-0, 6-2. Forberg defeated Garcia at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Marrero turned back Harves, 6-0, 6-3. It was Hunter's Katz beating Lehman's Carela 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Cruz downed Veras, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1), and finally at No. 6 singles, the Hawks' Mark Goldfinger beat Batres, 6-0, 6-2.
The Lightning will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning will battle USMMA King's Point in non-conference action at the APEX Tennis Courts, with match-time scheduled for noon.
