The Lehman College men's tennis team (1-5 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) dropped a conference match on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Beavers of the City College of New York (3-1 Overall, 1-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 9-0 at the APEX Tennis Courts.
The Beavers took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, it was CCNY's combination of Asaf Breier and Gabriel Felder turning back Lehman College's pair of Miguel Carela and David Chang by a score of 8-4. City College's Gaiell Mitchell-Kercy and Alexander Jonsson defeated Lehman College's Shiva Devarinti and Dean Garcia by a score of 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and No. 3 doubles saw the Lightning's Larry Harvey and Joseph Veras fall to CCNY's Steven Tran and Vinicio Haro by a score of 8-0.
When play switched over to singles, the Beavers continued to dominate, capturing all six singles sets. At No. 1 singles, Felder turned back Devarinti 6-0, 6-3. Breier downed Chang at No. 2, 6-0, 7-5. At No. 3 singles, Jonsson defeaed Garcia, 6-1, 6-0. CCNY's Kercy finished off Carela 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. No. 5 singles saw the Beavers' Steven Tran turn back Harvey, 6-4, 6-4, and finally at No. 6 singles, it was Haro downing Veras, 6-0, 6-1.
The Lightning will return to action Saturday afternoon as the team takes to the road to battle Rutgers-Newark University, with match-time scheduled for 1:00pm.
