MEN'S TENNIS OVERWHELMED BY BEARCATS OF BARUCH COLLEGE IN 8-1 DEFEAT IN THE BRONX

The Lehman College men's tennis team (1-7 Overall, 1-5 CUNYAC) dropped a CUNYAC match to the Bearcats of Baruch College on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 8-1 at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx. The loss was the fifth straight defeat for the Lightning.

 

The Bearcats dominated doubles play, capturing all three doubles sets. At No. 1, it was Baruch's combination of Andrew Smith and Damon Ye turning back Lehman's duo of Miguel Carela and Shiva Devarinti by a score of 8-2. The Bearcats' Aliaksei Misitau and Tadas Valiukenas defeated the Lightning's David Chang and Dean Garcia 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and finally at No. 3 it was Baruch's team of Mikheil Sumbatashvili and Paul Medvinsky silencing Lehman's pair of Marcos Coto-Batres and Joseph Veras by a score of 8-2.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Bearcats continued to control the match, capturing all five singles sets that were played. The Lightning picked up a victory at No. 2 by default as Baruch's Andrew Smith couldn't compete due to injury, giving the Lightning's David Chang a win by default. At No. 1 singles, Ye downed Devarinti 6-2, 6-3. No. 3 singles saw Valiukenas silence Garcia, 6-0, 6-1. Sumbatashvili turned back Coto-Batres 6-1, 6-3. Lehman's Carela was defeated by Mistiau, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and finally at No. 6 singles it was Medvinsky beating Veras, 6-1, 6-2.

 

The Lehman College men's tennis team will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as the Lightning will battle the Bears of St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn at the APEX Tennis Courts, with match-time scheduled for 4:00pm.
