The Lehman College men's tennis team (2-9 Overall, 1-7 CUNYAC) dropped a conference match on Friday afternoon, falling to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College (7-1 Overall, 4-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 7-2 at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
The Bloodhounds raced out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, it was John Jay College's standout combination of Joshua Pagan and Ben Jorgensen defeating Lehman's pair of Miguel Carela and David Chang by a score of 8-0. The Lightning's Larry Harvey and Dean Garcia fought hard at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell to John Jay's Derrick Chung and Stephen Walz by a score of 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Lehman won No. 3 doubles by default as John Jay could not put together a team for the set.
When play switched over to singles, the Bloodhounds won the five singles sets that were actually played, while Lehman College won No. 6 singles by default. No. 1 singles saw John Jay's Pagan down Chang by a score of 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2 singles it was Jorgensen turning back Garcia 6-0, 6-0. The Bloodhounds' Stephen Walz outlasted Carela in a classic battle at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-2. John Jay's Derrick Chung defeated Lehman's Harvey 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, and finally at No. 5 singles, it was Kelvin Rodriguez defeating Joseph Veras by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
The Lehman College men's tennis team will return to action on Sunday afternoon as the Lightning will battle Polytechnic University in a non-conference match, with start-time scheduled for 1:00pm.
