MEN'S TENNIS WINS REGULAR SEASON FINALE, DEFEATING SARAH LAWRENCE COLLEGE 8-1

The Lehman College men's tennis team finished its regular season with a victory, defeating the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College in a non-conference match by a score of 8-1 on Tuesday evening.

 

The Lightning raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. At No. 1 doubles it was Shiva Devarinti and David Chang outlasting Sarah Lawrence's Albert Sandoval and Vaughn Bergen by a score of 8-5. Lehman's Miguel Carela and Larry Harvey would defeat the Gryphons' Akash Radia and Robi Sampson by a score of 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, and the Lightning captured the No. 3 doubles match by default.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Lightning won four of the five sets that were played. The Lightning won the No. 6 set by default, and Sarah Lawrence's lone victory at singles came at No. 5 when Radia downed Alex Linde by a score of 10-7. At No. 1 singles, Devarinti turned back Bergen by a score of 10-6. Chang silenced Sandoval 10-0 at No. 2 singles, and at No. 3 singles it was Harvey defeating Nathan Thompson 10-5, and finally at No. 4 singles, Carela beat Sampson, 10-4.

 

Lehman College will return to action on Saturday afternoon, May 1st, as the Lightning will enter the 2010 CUNYAC Men's Tennis Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will take to the road to battle the No. 1 seed, who is yet to be determined. Start-time for the match is still to-be-determined.
