Box Score

Dec. 10, 2011

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College's Jen Mocanu scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting as the visiting Knights defeated the Lehman Lightning women 61-53 on Saturday afternoon as part of the 4th Annual CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic held at New Roc City in New Rochelle.

The Knights' senior did much of her damage in the first half, scoring 17 points, and teamed with fellow senior Amanda Horvers, who drilled two key three-pointers, to help Mount build a 38-22 halftime lead.  Horvers would finish with 12 points.

Lehman was led by Jaleesa Gordon's 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting.  Leslie Mencia dropped in 14 and Alicia McDaniel added 10 points and eight rebounds in another strong performance.  Amanda De La Cruz was quiet on the day taking only five shots and finishing with three points.  However, the Lightning senior did find other ways to help her team as she dished out nine assists.

After finding itself down big at the break, the Lightning battled back over the first ten minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to 42-35 on a jump shot by Paula Robinson with 10:05 remaining.  The Knights went on to score the next 12 points with half coming courtesy of Mocanu baskets and the rest coming at the foul line by Becky Metzger, Kelly Dempsey and Kristina Nieves.  Mencia put in a layup to stop the bleeding, but by that time the Knights had pushed their lead back to 55-37 with 6:36 left in the game.

The visitors from Newburgh, New York held the edge on the backboards, outrebounding Lehman 42-31.

Mount Saint Mary improves to an impressive 9-1 with the victory while the Lightning falls to 4-6 on the season.

Lehman returns to action on Tuesday, December 13 against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at the Dolphins home in Riverdale.
