Mar. 26, 2011

Box Score

After one match postponed by weather and another rescheduled due to New York's snarling traffic, the Lehman Lightning took to the tennis courts on the grounds of the College of Staten Island in search of its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the Lightning will have wait at least one more match to crack the win column as the host Dolphins shut out Lehman 9-0 in earning its second win of the season.

Lehman's best chance at victory came in No. 2 singles where Michael Tal took CSI's Pat Thomas to three sets before falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. In other singles play, Lehman No. 1 Raul Santana was forced to retire from his match with Nick Zikos; No. 3 Cesar Andrade was defeated 6-3, 6-2; No. 4 Philip Akogu was stopped by Joe Taranto 6-0, 6-1; Marcos Coto-Batres couldn't solve Gary Ambartsumov in losing 6-2, 6-1; and Ali Saleh lost 6-3, 6-2 to Dan Ursomanno.

In doubles action CSI's combo of Zikos and Thomas took care of Santana and Tal 8-4; Taranto and Takaki bounced Akogu and Saleh 8-3; and Dano and Ursomanno dispatched of Andrade and Coto-Batres 8-2.

Lehman returns to action on Monday against Brooklyn College when it will continue its suspended match from Friday afternoon with the Lightning leading 3-0.
