The Lehman men's tennis team earned its second win of the season on Thursday afternoon, putting together its most complete performance of the season in beating visiting York College 8-1.
The Lightning enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 cushion heading into singles action thanks to capturing all three doubles matches. Lehman's No. 1 pairing of senior
Raul Santana and freshman
Michael Tal defeated Ayman Busat and Jay June 8-4; the No. 2 team of
Cesar Andrade and
Marcos Coto-Batres stopped Kareem Mobley and Erick Giron 8-4; and No. 3 partners
Rabiedra Hansraj and
Ali Saleh slipped by Iheanyi Agbor and Trevon Phillips 9-7.
York managed its only victory in No. 4 singles action when Giron beat Coto-Batres 6-1, 6-2. Aside from that match and the No. 3 duel between Andrade and Mobley, a tight 7-5, 0-6, 10-8 squeaker for the Lehman freshman, the remaining four matches were won handily by the Lightning.
In No. 1 competition, Santana upended Busat 6-4, 6-2; Tal bounced June 6-3, 6-3 in a battle of No. 2s; Saleh grabbed a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win from Agbor in No. 5 action; and Hansraj made quick work of Phillips 6-0, 6-2 in a showdown of No. 6s.
Lehman will travel into the heart of Manhattan for its next match, a 12 p.m. conference showdown with Baruch College on Saturday.
