Cooper Union Drops Lightning Tennis to 0-2 to Start Season

BRONX, N.Y. - Hoping to bounce back from an opening season loss to Hunter College, the Lehman men's tennis team instead fell to 0-2 after Saturday afternoon's 8-1 defeat at the hands of visiting Cooper Union.

Ben Cirilo, playing No. 6 singles, was the lone Lightning player to come away with a victory.  The Lehman junior downed Vasily Kuksenkov 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.

Both Marcos Coto-Batres and Alex Linde, playing No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively, came back strong after losing the opening set before ultimately dropping the deciding set by identical 7-5 scores.  Coto-Batres fell victim to Raymond Wong 6-2, 7-5, while Linde was knocked off by his counterpart 6-3, 7-5.

In other singles action Michael Tal lost to Anthony Asall 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 action; Philip Akogu was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Edward Levshteyn in No. 2 play; and Cesar Andrade was overtaken by Spenser Chan 6-1, 6-2.

Cooper Union handled the Lightning in all three doubles matches as well.

Lehman returns to the APEX tennis courts on Wednesday for a non-conference match against SUNY Purchase.
