USMMA Sends Lightning Tennis to Fourth Straight Defeat

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Taking its act on the road for the first time this season, the Lehman men's tennis team produced the same result, losing 6-3 to the United States Merchant Marine Academy-Kings Point to drop to 0-4 on the season.

Lehman was able to pick up a a win in doubles play with the team of Michael Tal and Andres Restrepo toppling Moana Kawatachi and Chris Miller in No. 3 play by the score of 8-4. 

In the two other matches the Kings Point team of Jeff Gulitus and Frank Sysko blanked Cesar Andrade and Marcos Coto-Batres 8-0 in No. 1 doubles action and the No. 2 team for Kings Point, Timothy Buxton and Jeremy Guettlein, stifled Alex Linde and Ben Cirilo 8-3.

The Lightning fared a bit better in singles action with wins in No. 2 and No. 5 play by Andrade and Cirilo, respectively.  Andrade's victory came against Buxton by the scores of 6-4, 6-1, while Cirilo bested Kawatachi 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Kings Point took No. 1 with Tal falling 6-3, 6-0 to Guliltus; No. 3 as Guettlein upended Coto-Batres 6-1, 6-1; No. 4 as Linde lost to Sysko 6-1, 6-1; and No. 6 with Restrepo losing to James Karas 6-1, 6-3.

Lehman will try to break its slide on Saturday when it hosts Polytechnic Institute of New York University on the APEX tennis courts.
