NYU Poly the Latest to Stymie Lightning in Men's Tennis

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lightning men's tennis team fell victim to another non-conference opponent in its latest match, losing to visiting Polytechnic Institute of New York University 9-0 to push its record to 0-5.

The Blue Jays took all three doubles matches to start without much resistance as the Lightning won just four games.  In No. 1 action Michael Tal and Philip Akogu were defeated by Yan Krasny and Conor Doherty 8-1.  Cesar Andrade and Marcos Coto-Batres did no better in their No. 2 match with Fhris Iysiuk and Tommy Inovye, losing 8-1, while Alex Linde and Ben Cirilo were defeated 8-2 by D.J. Errabali and Connor Dawson.

Cirilo continued to show fight out of the No. 6 spot in singles action, taking Dawson to three sets before bowing out 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.  Tal nearly grabbed the opening set of his No. 1 singles match with Iysiuk, losing by the slimmest of margins at 7-6, before losing the second set 6-2.

Akogu, Andrade, Coto-Batres and Linde all went quietly in No. 2 through No. 5 action, respectively.

Lehman begins a stretch of five straight conference matches on Tuesday when it faces John Jay College at 3:30 p.m.
