FLUSHING, N.Y. - John Jay College defeated Lehman 8-1 in men's tennis on Tuesday afternoon at the U.S.T.A National Tennis Center, sending the Lightning to its sixth straight loss to open the season.

Lehman was hampered by a shortened roster that forced it to default both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Michael Tal, playing No. 2 singles, pulled out his first individual win of the season, defeating Luis Chirinos 6-1, 6-2.  He was not as lucky playing No. 1 doubles with Philip Akogu, however, as the pair dropped an 8-1 decision to Erkut Cakmak and Stephen Walz.  Akogu was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Cakmak in No. 1 singles.

Marcos Coto-Batres and Ben Cirilo joined together for No. 2 doubles, losing to Kelvin Rodriguez and Andreas Pantaloukas 8-3.  Coto-Batres later saw Pantaloukas in No. 3 singles action, where he was defeated 6-1, 6-2.

Ben Cirilo gave Walz everything he could handle in No. 4 action, taking the match the full three sets before losing 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-3.

Andres Restrepo was cut down to size by Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1.

Lehman's next match, its third conference contest of the year, is scheduled for Friday against City College of New York.
