Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - The wait is over.

After opening its season with five straight losses the Lehman men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Friday afternoon defeating City College of New York 7-1.

More importantly the victory was of the conference variety and puts the Lightning at 1-2 with plenty of time to right the ship as four conference matches still dot the schedule.

CCNY remained winless on the season.

In addition to Lehman snatching its first win as a team, both Alex Linde and Andres Restrepo each tallied their first individual match victories.

Playing No. 4 singles Linde toppled Roberto Zhang 6-1, 6-4, while Restrepo powered through a tough match with Daniel Chia to win 7-5, 7-5 despite trailing 2-5 in the second set.

Linde later teamed with Ben Cirilo for No. 2 doubles where they outlasted Wilson Lai and Jiaqi Guan 8-4.

In No. 2 singles play Michael Tal earned an easy win over Lau 6-1, 6-1; Cesar Andrade captured his No. 3 match 6-1, 6-0 over Guan; and Cirilo blanked Kedarry Ransome in the first set, 6-0, before taking the second set 6-4.

Do Hyun Kim saved face for the Beavers, escaping with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Philip Akogu in the top singles draw.  Akogu got a bit of revenge in No. 1 doubles, however, as he and Andrade narrowly edged out Kim and Ransome 9-7.

The No. 3 doubles match pitting Restrepo and Leonardo de Oliveira against Zhang and Niboonchote Wongbuphanimitr was halted by darkness.

Restrepo's partner, de Oliveira, had a chance to taste victory as well, though, as he displayed a potent forehand to win his exhibition match against Wongbuphanimitr 8-2.

Lehman is back on the APEX tennis courts on April 3 to take on College of Staten Island.
