NEWARK, N.J. - Despite forfeiting No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, the Lehman men's tennis team still had enough firepower to overtake host Rutgers-Newark on Friday afternoon, defeating the Scarlet Raiders 6-3 to improve to 4-8 on the season.

The Lightning won all but one match that it was represented in - No. 4 singles where Andres Restrepo was taken down 6-1, 6-1 - though the Scarlet Raiders did not go quietly.

In No. 1 singles action Michael Tal needed three sets to dispose of Gafar Ayinde, coming back from a 6-2 first set loss to take the final two 7-5, 6-4.

Cesar Andrade put his name in the winner's column, the fourth straight match he has done so, by downing Derence Tejero 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 play.

Ben Cirilo continued his strong rookie season by winning his No. 3 match against Elijah Kim 7-5, 6-0.  Like Andrade, it was Cirilo's fourth straight singles victory.

Leonardo de Oliveira earned the Lightning's final singles win, stopping Rolando Cruz in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles action Tal and Cirilo teamed up for the first time this year and emerged victorious, beating Ayinde and Kim 8-5.  Andrade and Restrepo replicated the result in their No. 2 doubles match against Tejero and Austin Gilker.

Lehman will play its final regular season match on Saturday afternoon against Brooklyn College on the Bulldogs home court.
