Hunter Dispatches Lightning In CUNYAC Tennis Quarterfinals

BRONX, N.Y. - Hoping to keep its City University of New York Athletic Conference season alive, the Lehman men's tennis team instead fell victim to No. 3 seed Hunter College, losing 5-0 on the APEX tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite several matches still in progress, the Hawks were awarded the victory after being the first to five match wins.

Hunter captured all three doubles matches by healthy margins as Luis Quintero and Irving Salazar defeated Michael Tal and Cesar Andrade 8-3; Damen Ellingson and Robvert Sosman stopped Ben Cirilo and Marcos Coto-Batres 8-4; and Arthur Kapetanakis and Binh Luu blanked Andres Restrepo and Leonardo de Oliveira 8-0.

In No. 1 singles action Tal was no match for Quintero, losing 6-1, 6-0, while Salazar handled Restrepo 6-0, 6-2 in No. 5 play. Numbers two, three and four singles were all suspended in progress.

The Lightning now stands at 4-10, and though officially out of the CUNYAC Championships, will play one final match of the season on Friday afternoon against Sarah Lawrence College.
