Navarro Spearheads Women's Basketball in Win Over John Jay

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team overcame a late deficit to top John Jay College in a key CUNY Athletic Conference game, 63-58, on Friday evening in the APEX. Sophomore guard Jennifer Navarro was the hero for the Lightning, as she hit the go-ahead shot that put the Lightning in the lead for good, with just 2:39 left in the game.

Navarro finished with 16 points, five of which came down the stretch to seal the game for Lehman (15-9, 9-6 CUNYAC).

With less than five minutes remaining, Lehman trailed by two before Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) hit a jump shot to tie the game at 54, with 4:36 remaining. Just less than two minutes later, Navarro's three-point basket broke the tie and gave Lehman the lead, 57-54, with 2:39 left. With one minute remaining, Navarro extended Lehman's lead to five via a pair of free throws.

The Lightning were able to hang on and win the game over John Jay (9-15, 6-9 CUNYAC), 63-58.

Junior forward Shalaya Nieves (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) lead the Lightning in scoring with 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) produced 14 points and brought down nine boards of her own.

Lehman will return to the APEX for the final game of the regular season on Tuesday, February 18, against The City College of New York. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
