STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team earned a CUNY Athletic Conference victory over John Jay, 68-57, on Wednesday evening. The game was played at the College of Staten Island.

The Lightning (12-5, 6-3 CUNYAC) were led by junior forward Karrin Walker (New York, N.Y./Richard R. Green), who tallied a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Classmate Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) added 14 points and forced five steals.

In the first half, junior forward Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) nailed a jump shot to put Lehman up, 15-11, with 11:21 remaining. That would begin an 8-0 run by the Lightning, capped off by a two-point field goal from junior forward Yarmese Jones (Astoria, N.Y./William C. Bryant), that extended Lehman's lead to 21-11, with 9:50 left in the opening stanza. The two teams went into halftime with Lehman securing a 34-27 lead.

In the second half, the Bloodhounds (3-12, 3-6 CUNYAC) stormed out of the gate and cut the Lightning's lead to 35-34, with 17:47 remaining in regulation. Lehman managed to turn momentum back into its favor by scoring the game's next eight points. During that run, Navarro drilled a shot from beyond the arc, to put the Lightning up 40-34. A free throw from Jones completed the run to extend Lehman's lead to 43-34, with 14:43 left to play. The Lightning did not allow the Bloodhounds to make the game close the rest of the way, as Lehman went on to earn its sixth conference game of the season.

Lightbourne scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards. Jones scored nine and had seven rebounds, while junior forward Linda McKeon (Yonkers, N.Y./Moyne C.S.) had eight points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

The Lightning will return to the APEX Main Gym on Saturday, for a CUNYAC game against Medgar Evers, on Homecoming Day. The game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
