Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team suffered a CUNY Athletic Conference loss to Brooklyn College, 54-45, in the APEX Main Gym on Friday evening.
Lehman (5-4, 3-1 CUNYAC) had a 25-10 lead at the half, but the Bulldogs (7-3, 4-0 CUNYAC) outscored the Lightning 44-20 in the second to earn the come-from-behind win.
The Lightning were led by junior guard
Amely Del Rosario, who scored 19 points, forced four steals, and dished out three assists. Senior forward
Amani Lightbourne produced 15 points, while classmate
Jennifer Navarro added seven. Senior forward
Yarmese Jones added four points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Lehman got off to a fast start as Navarro's jump shot gave Lehman a 6-0 lead, less than three minutes in. At the end of the first quarter, Del Rosario converted a layup on the fast break, to extend Lehman's lead to 16-7.
In the second quarter, Del Rosario's jump shot gave Lehman its largest lead of the game, 23-7, with 3:36 remaining in the opening half. The Lightning had a 25-10 lead heading into intermission.
Brooklyn turned momentum into its favor in the third quarter, as a 23-4 run by the visiting team put Lehman in a 33-29 deficit with just 2:01 left in the stanza.
In the fourth quarter, Del Rosario hit a pair of free throws to give Lehman a 34-33 lead with 8:55 left in regulation. The Bulldogs scored the next six points to gain a 39-34 advantage with 7:15 remaining. Brooklyn was able to pull away to pick up the victory, 54-45.
The Lightning will be back in action on Wednesday, for a non-conference game at St. Joseph's College of Long Island, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
