BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's tennis team won a tight CUNY Athletic Conference match over York College, 5-4, on the APEX Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
Junior Gene Nakagaki's (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) win at #2 singles clinched Lehman's first conference victory of the season. Nakagaki won the first set 6-1, dropped the second, 2-6, but came back to win the rubber set, 6-2. Freshman CarloJay Maghirang (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) dropped a competitive #1 singles match, 6-4 and 6-4. Maghirang and Nakagaki teamed up to win at #1 doubles, 8-2.
Junior Al Joseph Dubouzet (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) and senior Socrates Peralta (Santo Domingo, D.R./Morris) earned a convincing win at #2 doubles, 8-0. Dubouzet came back to win his #3 singles match, 6-0 and 6-1, while Peralta won at #4 singles, 6-3 and 6-2.
York won the last two singles matches, but Lehman was able to hang on and secure the victory, 5-4.
The Lightning will be back in action on Saturday, for a CUNYAC match against Brooklyn College, on the APEX tennis courts at 12:00 p.m.
