Del Rosario's Double-Double Not Enough in Loss to Eastern, 78-58

Box Score Miami, Fla. – The Lehman College women's basketball team were beaten by Eastern University, 78-58, Wednesday afternoon at the second and final day of the Hoop MIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami.

The Lightning (3-6) were led by Amely Del Rosario, who posted a double-double with a game-high 32 points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Lynda Fields added 24 points and five rebounds, while Shakia Artist snatched down a team-best 11 rebounds with three blocks in a losing effort.

For Eastern (8-2), Emily Lavin paced three players in double figures by scored a team-high 25 points and grabbed 17 boards for a double-double. Taylor Price added 20 points and nine rebounds, while Regie Robinson added 17 points, nine boards and six assists.

The Eagles shot much more efficiently throughout the game hitting on 50.7% of their shots, including 57.1% from the field in the first half. They also dished out 25 assists to the Lightning's five, and earned a 54-18 edge on points in the paint. Lehman struggled with their shooting at 31.7% (20-for-63) and failed to control the rebounding edge (45-40 in favor of Eastern).

Lehman jumped out of the gate with an 8-0 run in the first two minutes of the first quarter, then Del Rosario would connect on three three-pointers in the stanza to take a 23-19 lead after one quarter. The Eagles would not go away, as both teams traded the lead in the second but late threes by Del Rosario and Fields would put the Lightning up 38-35 at half.

In the second half, the teams would again go back and forth trading the lead. With the Lightning up one point at 43-42, the Eagles would erupt with 14 of the next 18 points to grab a double-digit lead with as they moved ahead 59-49 at the end of the third. Eastern would continue to build their lead moving through the fourth, and would never relinquish it.

This wraps up the schedule before the Christmas holiday for the Lightning. They will return to action December 29th and 30th when along with the men's team host the Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout at the APEX Center.

Lehman will face off with SUNY Poly at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals, and will face either York (Pa.) or Alvernia Friday. Live stats and streaming video will be made available on LehmanAthletics.com.
