Men’s Tennis heads to CSI for CUNYAC Playoffs

Gene Nakagaki and Jason Strudwick
The Lehman College men's tennis team is playing at the College of Staten Island on Friday in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championships. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m. Lehman (5-10 / 3-4 CUNYAC) will be playing as the fifth seed in the tournament while the host Dolphins of CSI (6-8 / 4-3 CUNYAC) are the fourth seed.

The Lightning are enjoying their best season in years under first year head coach Ana Belzunce, improving dramatically from a 1-6 CUNYAC record in 2015 to go 3-4 this year. Freshman Jason Strudwick (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) has emerged as a budding star at number one singles, going 8-5 and twice claiming conference Rookie of the Week honors. Senior Gene Nakagaki (Scarsdale, NY / Eastchester) has gone 9-3 this year, teaming with Strudwick at the top doubles spot and impressing at number two singles.

Earlier this season, the Dolphins edged the Lightning in a 6-3 bout on April 11th.

"We're very excited for today's match." Coach Belzunce said. "The whole team has been working hard for this."
