Amely Del Rosario paced the Lightning with 21 points but it wasn't enough as Lehman (10-8) fell to # 2 Amherst (18-0) 85-45 in Amherst, MA.
Lehman kept it close in the early going. The Lightning were down 13-9 with three minutes to play in the opening quarter before Amherst went on an 11-2 run to end the quarter. Lehman was able to cut the lead to ten in the second but the Lord Jeffs rallied again and took a 39-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. It was all Amherst in the third quarter as they outscored Lehman 26-11 to double their advantage. Amherst continued strong in the final period out scoring Lehman 20-10.
The Lightning struggled from the field as Lehman only converted 16 of 62 attempts (26%). Meanwhile the Lord Jeffs hit 34 of 79 attempts (43%). The Lightning were also dominated on the boards as Amherst held a 62-35 advantage.
Emma McCarthy led Amherst with 16 points and 13 rebounds. While three other players, Ali Doswell, Madeline Eck and Jackie Nagle all tallied 14 apiece.
The loss snapped a seven game winning streak. Lehman hopes to resume their winning ways as they start a five game home stand, their longest of the season, beginning on Wednesday night against York College. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
