Post Game Interview

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team jumped out to a quick start, and never looked back as they soundly defeated York (N.Y.), 84-39, in CUNYAC play Wednesday night at the APEX Center.

The Lightning (11-8, 9-2 CUNYAC) have now won eight of their last nine games, and have moved into a tie for second place with Brooklyn and just one game back of top-ranked Staten Island. The Cardinals drop to 2-17 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Amely Del Rosario poured in a game-high 24 points along with five steals, six rebounds and a block.

Marika Gordon posted a double-double, scoring 17 points with 11 boards in the win. Lynda Fields dished out a team-best four assists along with 12 points, while Lisa Fields tallied 11 points to go with five boards. Krystal Pearson added eight points and nine rebounds in the victory.

For the Cardinals, Sheahna Roscher posted a team-best 11 points to go with five rebounds in a losing effort.

The Lehman defense held York throughout the game to just 22.2% from the field and forced 28 total turnovers, which they converted 33 points off those mishaps. Offensively, the Lightning shot 46.2% (36-for-78) and dominated inside with 50 points in the paint. They also quickened the pace up the floor, pouring in 24 fast break points as they led wire-to-wire.

Up next for the Lightning is Homecoming Saturday, when they host CUNYAC foe John Jay as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is set for 12:00 p.m. and the alumni game will follow in between and the men's game closes out the day at 3.
