Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team used a 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter and never looked back as they defeated Hunter College, 69-60, in a crucial CUNYAC contest Monday night at the APEX Center.
Amely Del Rosario led the Lightning (7-7, 5-2 CUNYAC) with 22 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Krystal Pearson added 17 points along with six boards and four assists, while
Lynda Fields poured in 16 points of her own and a game-best seven steals.
The Hawks (8-6, 4-2 CUNYAC) were led by Jade Aponte, who connected on five three-pointers as part of her 17 points but fouled out in the second half. Theresa Leung dished out a game-high six assists along with 13 points, while Ashley Arias compiled a double-double (11 points, 16 rebounds) in a losing effort.
Lehman shot 43.8% from the field, including a blistering 58.3% (7-for-12) in the deciding fourth quarter to help seal the victory. Their strong defense forced 25 turnovers with 19 steals, and won despite being out-rebounded 45-34 including 16 offensive boards.
Up next for the Lightning is a CUNYAC matchup on the road with Medgar Evers Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Cougars Cave.
