Women’s Soccer Sends Seniors Out as Winners with 7-2 Defeat of Yeshiva

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day prior to the regular-season finale with Yeshiva on Monday in the Bronx.  Before the game, Chaochi Lee, Pamela Sanchez-Espejel, Gredia Sanchez-Espejel, Daisy Gomez, Lillian Barreto and Estefany Balbuena were honored in their final home appearance.  When the game got started, the Lighting struck for seven goals in a 7-2 win.

Barreto opened the scoring at 4:50 as she took a breakaway up the left side and beat the Yeshiva keeper.  Less than five minutes later, Daniela Castro made the score 2-0 as she cleaned up a loose ball in the box with a flick that got past the goalie.

From there, Gabrielle Aboudi made the score 2-1 with a free kick.  The next two markers both belonged to Lehman as Barreto put a ball over the top that Val Rojas Alingue finished.  At 35:01, another senior, Pamela Sanchez got on the score sheet with a pass to Susana Tario for a goal.  Another Aboudi free kick found the back of the net and cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Lightning got hot and scored a pair of goals within 0:22 of each other.  At 41:32, Gomez blasted a free kick into the upper part of the goal from 30 yards out to make the score 5-2.  Pamela Sanchez slipped past the defense and brought the game to 6-2 with a goal at 41:54.

Lehman got a second half goal when Castro found Daisy Gomez in the box.  The final score was 7-2.  Gomez led the team with a pair of goals.  Castro, Barreto and Pamela Sanchez each totaled a goal and an assist.

The Lehman College women's soccer team earned the #3 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC championship.  They face John Jay in that game on Wednesday, November 1, at a time and location to be announced.
